Hanna Somatic Movement for Pain Relief

About Jacqui Neurauter, BodyMind Somatics Coach and her independently owned and operated private practice:

My mission is to “Bust the Myth of Aging” by empowering people with tools to relieve chronic pain and physical and emotional stress and restore freedom of movement through private sessions and group online and in-person classes.

What I bring to this work:

·      Certified Hana Somatic Education®

·      Certified Clinical Somatic Movement® Instructor

·      Certified iRest® Meditation Instructor

What is Hanna Somatic Movement Education?

Hanna Somatic Education is a method of self-care in which each individual is taught how to retrain their nervous system to release chronic muscle tension and improve posture and movement. The intention is to empower people to take care of themselves and become the expert in their own musculoskeletal functioning.

Hanna Somatics is unique in the field of somatic education and all movement modalities because it uses the technique of voluntary pandiculation. This is our nervous system’s natural way of waking up our sensorimotor system, resetting muscle tonus and preparing us for movement. The movements are slow and gentle and can be performed sitting, lying down and even standing.

New research demonstrates the efficacy of Hanna Somatic Education and movements to relieve chronic back and neck pain. In the 1970s, Thomas Hanna, founder of Hanna Somatics, introduced “somatics” to describe mind/body integration approaches. The term has become a bit of a buzzword in the health and wellness industry. Hanna Somatic Movements are movements performed consciously to focus on the internal experience.

My Experience and Training
As a Renaissance Soul it took many years for my interests, talents and passions to come together. I began my coaching career as an independent professional recruiter.  Continuing my journey, I became certified as an iRest Yoga Nidra Instructor, then certified in teaching Clinical Somatic Movement and finally, as a Hanna Somatic Educator.

I have taught community education courses focusing on personal growth for Harper College in Palatine, IL, since 1997. As a staff writer for Yoga Chicago for 20 years, my Living in Sync column incorporated a variety of personal growth topics, which can also be found on the blog of my Harmonious Pathways website. In 2011, I became co-founder and president of the Veterans Restorative Project, a 501(c)(3), offering iRest meditation programs to veterans and their families for ten years. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I have continued serving veterans with free iRest and somatics programs.

Philanthropic Endeavor

In 2023, I encouraged one of my clients to create a legal not-for-profit entity for a project she and her husband started five years earlier. They have been donating and raising funds to support the secondary education of mostly bright girls in rural Malawi, Africa, who would
otherwise end up in early marriage and motherhood. We4Malawi became a 501(c)(3) in late
2023, and I was asked to be on the board and help formalize a successful fundraising program, which raised over $31,000 in 2024. Four students are already in university, with many more behind them!
